Autumn Rain

It is finally autumn, and the rain and cold have permeated everything. I actually don’t usually mind this. There is something so beautiful about how the world slowly curls up to take a long sleep; how the leaves gradually change color and days become shorter; how you have to keep adding layer upon layer to keep warm; how the sound of rain on the window keeps its melodic rhythm.

I am in desperate need of that comfort this week, and I am soaking it in — from the rain, from the cozy sweaters, from the extra cup of coffee, and from the sweet music that draws me into the presence of the One who loves me most.

The brokenness of this world weighs heavy right now. I have anguished over the pain of dear friends and the way their lives have been changed forever. As loved ones experience betrayal, death, divorce, and secrets that are coming to light, it has honestly felt like a physical blow.

I have cried. I have prayed. I have reached out best I can. But it doesn’t seem enough.

That is why today, I am choosing to remember that perfect love casts out all fear. Perfect love soothes my broken heart and shows me how to love others.

If you’re feeling broken today, it’s okay. Feel it, but don’t stay in it. Choices matter — and you can choose to turn things over and feel differently.

Be strong today. Be brave. Be kind. Be love and light everywhere you go and to everyone with whom you speak. Let’s agree to fight the brokenness with healing love.

It won’t be easy, but I will hold your hand and do it with you, and before long, we WILL be the change we wish to see in the world.

Big hugs from rainy Portugal.

xx, Ariel
